The High Cost of Winning

Two emails hit my inbox this week.

Email #1: Google Search Console. "Congrats! Your website has started gathering traffic—40 clicks in the last 28 days."My reaction: Pure excitement. GlomeSpace is finally being found. The SEO is working. We are visible.

Email #2: My Database Hosting Provider. "Alert: You have used 80% of your monthly free-tier specs." My reaction: A cold sweat.

If you’re a bootstrapper, you know exactly what that second email means. It means the "free" ride is over. It means going premium, increasing the monthly burn rate, and watching the runway get a little bit shorter.

It’s the great paradox of a startup: Your success is trying to kill your budget.

The Fear of the "Next Tier" For a long time, I was comfortable in the free tier. It was safe. It was $0. But as I stared at those two emails, I realized something: I was essentially fearing the very thing I had been working day and night to achieve.

We often pray for growth, but we panic when the bill for that growth arrives.

The Lesson: Success is a Risk. We like to think of success as a destination where things get easier. In reality, success is just a series of higher-stakes problems. If you want the traffic, you have to pay for the database. If you want the users, you have to scale the infrastructure.

Here is the hard truth for anyone building something right now:

  1. Safety is a Plateau: If you stay where it’s "free" and "easy," you aren't growing; you’re just hovering.
  2. Growth Demands New Capabilities: You might feel like you aren’t ready for the "premium" version of your journey—whether that's financial, emotional, or professional. But you cannot reach the next level while holding onto the safety of the current one.
  3. Face the Bill: Whether it's a literal invoice or the "cost" of your time and energy, don't let the price tag of success scare you back into the shadows.

The Bottom Line Success calls for things you think you aren't capable of doing yet. It asks for more money, more responsibility, and more risk. But you can’t have the 40 clicks without the 80% database warning.

I’m soon moving to the premium tier. Not because I want to increase my burn, but because I refuse to burn my potential.

What is the one "next step" you’ve been avoiding because you’re afraid of the responsibility (or the cost) it brings?

Keep journeying,

Integrity Over Speed: A Founder’s Story

This week, a story surfaced in the tech world that serves as a necessary, brutal reality check: the fall of the compliance startup, Delve. Delve promised companies a way to bypass the months of grueling work required for SOC 2 compliance. They used AI to promise "instant certification." The market was hungry for it. They raised millions. They were a YC-backed darling. Then, the truth came out. The "AI-powered" speed was a facade. The evidence was fabricated. The audits were rubber-stamped. In...

This week, the tech world watched the courtroom clash between Elon Musk and Sam Altman reach a final, decisive end. After a three-week trial, the jury reached a verdict in less than two hours: The case is dismissed. But here is the detail that matters most: The jury didn't rule on the merits of Musk’s claims. They didn’t decide who had the better vision for OpenAI. They simply decided that Musk waited too long to act. He missed the legal window, and with that, his multi-billion dollar...

We have a massive announcement today. The GlomeSpace Shopify App was officially submitted and is currently in the review period. Once the green light comes through, we are executing a full launch on Product Hunt and officially opening our doors for business. The engine is primed, the code is ready, and the next chapter is about to begin. But right now? There is absolute silence. We are in the queue. And if you’ve ever built something, you know that this waiting period can feel agonizing. When...
